My youtube channel is a collection of RC and FPV related videos but also family/fun stuff, camera/tech bits and anything else that interests me.
I've flown RC heli's and planes for over 30 years on and off, quadcopters since 2012 and FPV since 2013, and have been making videos since S-VHS/8mm days.
I make youtube videos for fun and aim to make short useful videos where I feel I can do something a bit different, so I try to avoid common reviews unless I can do something different.
Everything I review is bought with my own money as a normal customer (I am not a fan of paid reviews or reviewers), so I can give my open and honest opinion.
I pretty much delete any abusive/trolling comments, but try to respond to serious questions, but please read video descriptions first as I try to put details in there where possible, also please don't ask me for links as I don't recommend any particular vendor, and links are outdated within a day or two, so just search for best price in your country.

Petzl Noctilight does it fit Swift RL? Zikkina, Zipka, Actik Core, Reacktik plus fitting check?
Переглядів 4,3 тис.3 роки тому
Jimzon asked a question on my Swift RL video where I mentioned the Swift RL doesn't fit in the Noctilight case/lantern when Petzl website says it does. I made this quick video to explain why I don't feel the Noctilight fits the headtorches Petzl claim on website, to be honest it only really fits the Zikkina and Actik properly IMHO, and its very overpriced I feel - would be fine for a fiver, but...

Lidl Electric Scooter quick review by HarryBo - £149 Doc Green ESA 800 E-Scooter
Переглядів 33 тис.4 роки тому
This Doc Green ESA 800 E-Scooter from Lidl looked a bargain for £149 so Harry has tried it out, and is a big fan. Plus points: 1. Goes 15mph on level ground with adult, or up hills with kids - performance is good for adults, excellent for kids. 2. Easy to ride with nice throttle and regen braking controls on handlebar 3. Battery lasts over an hour of kids riding round and round, takes 3hrs to c...

Petzl Swift RL How to remove replace swap rechargable battery
Переглядів 47 тис.4 роки тому
Someone asked for a video showing how to remove or swap the battery on Swift RL, so here it is. You do have to press quite hard when tilting torch up to click out of the groove, so I would suggest not doing this when torch is cold as plastic might be more brittle, I did this in normal indoor temperature and it was fine.
Petzl Swift RL new flagship compact headtorch compared with previous Reactik+
Переглядів 51 тис.4 роки тому
When I saw Petzl had replaced flagship Petzl Reactik all singing reactive lighting and bluetooth headtorch this the new Swift RL I got it for Christmas to compare. Both torches have the excellent reactive lighting feature, the Reactik with bluetooth and multiple buttons was overly complex, so the back to basics Swift RL is brighter and simpler. I do feel Swift RL is overpriced in comparison wit...
New 2019 Petzl Zipka 300 Lumen headtorch - comparison with 2017 200 lumen version
Переглядів 11 тис.4 роки тому
I only recently noticed that Petzl have uprated the Zipka to 300 lumens, from the previous 200 lumens, so wanted to compare the new 2019 version with my previous 2017 model. The new 300 lumen 2019 Zipka is noticably brighter with a nicer beam spread and 'warmer/yellow' light colour, so definitely better. Video shows the differences, and an idea of the beam difference, as best I can show on camera.

Cheap and easy remote probe damp meter for Motorhome or Caravan under £25

We've had a small damp area in our van, and original dealer struggled to resolve, so bought a cheap £5 damp meter to check our motorhome regularly, but its awkward to read in corners and cupboards, so I wanted something better. I just installed a standard servo connector (futana).spliced into the wiring than use a field charger to charge the battery and than install the battery in the transmitter and your done.Make sure to set your field charger at 0.5 amps and 2 cell.It takes about 6 hours with a new battery.I just replaced my battery this way in my DX8.
Extremely difficult battery to remove. Your video and demonstration made it so easy to understand. Thank you!
Awesome video! Thanks for being so specific!
Cool.
Aria 2 RGB does it fit inside Noctilight?
No, just got one to check and Aria2 RGB is far too wide so won't fit at all. Just checked and petzl website lists it as compatible, which is ridiculous ?? www.petzl.com/GB/en/Sport/Headlamps/NOCTILIGHT

Thanks mate!!!!✊
Really appreciate the reviews you make.
Good tutorial. Just bought one and waiting for it to arrive. I have also bought a 90 degree quick release camera bracket which I can use to turn my TurnsPro 90 degrees to do tilt timelapses. (You need a 90 degree angle gopro mount and a gopro to tripod mount). Apparently 250g is the most weight you can put on the TurnsPro when doing tilt timelapse.
Hello James, thank you for this video.
Excelent.. Thanks you for this information.
Thanks for the useful information 👍
I bought today 1.8 50mm stm and was suprice how loud AF is, then i start resarch and found this video xd. Thank you.
i returned it to canon for replacment just to make sure it's that a normal.. Stm lol

Any one found a way use external moniter with the 3 standerd
AFAIK this was never supported, but I don't know if you could get a Smartphone with HDMI out to connect external monitor by cable ? That would be the only possibility I think, but I never had a 3 standard so am only guessing.
Hey guys broke the rubber piece on my throttle any one know how to still work it

LOL I was surprised as how great that review was. I thought it will be rubbish seeing young lad doing this but it was very informative and somehow more appealing because he was doing all the stuff. Great!
I'm having the same problem with the 50 mm. both of the lenses are STM and the 50mm it's so noisy. Should I let my lens be "repaired" or is it normal?
Its normal, I spoke to Canon back when I made this video who initially suggested I send it in for repair, but when I asked to speak to someone else they agreed the EF 50 1.8 STM is a noisy lens, and if you want quieter then to consider the EF 50 1.4 USM.
@jamesb72 thank you very much!!
Great review. Just bought one an hour b4 I watched it. Thank you!
This is completely fake Thank you brother I got a shrinked note now which can’t be used now A** h***
pretty sure he mounted it the wrong way
You’re fake
Great and useful explanations. Thanks for your valuable input. Have fun!!
😂 😂 😂 😂 Still funny
Thanks, good info.
Hi, did you get to the bottom of this? I bought one for video and having the same issue 🙄
Canon seem to admit the EF 50mm 1.8 STM is noisy, I don't understand why the other STM lenses are silent, so suspect its a 'different kind of STM motor' - I ended up trading mine for the EF 50mm F1.4 USM which is quiet. If you look at other comments seems they are all like this, I just think Canon should be more open and honest in spec/details that this is not a quiet lens to avoid confusion/dissapointment.
@@jamesb72 thanks for the reply! I’ll send mine back. Whilst I’ve got you.. trying to film talking-head vids with blurred background (Canon 70D). The 50mm lens is so zoomed in I’d have to be 10ft away from the camera to get my head and arms in… would I be better looking at 35mm? Everyone on YT suggests 50mm but I don’t see it working 🤦🏻♂️
@@HaysieBoy Blurry is really subjective, you could try the EF 28mm F1.8 USM but don't forget shorter focal length reduces blur at same aperture so you may not be happy with it - best to try and hire/borrow lenses to figure out best compromise. You might do better with a smartphone as they blur artificially so you can't compete with that optically ;)
@@HaysieBoy It also depends on what camera you have, so for me im using the 50mm lens on my CANON EOS 750D and for some reason this body turns the 50mm in like an 80mm focal lenght, im new so i have no idea why it does that but thats something to keep in mind apparently not every focal lenght will be the same on every body
